Back to the Welcome to All Goods So Glory and episode six of our horror trivia game show Stab in the Dark. I'm your host, Mike, and as always, playing with us today, it's Charlie and Justin. Welcome, gentlemen. For those of you listening at home, grab yourself a pen and paper, play along with us. We're gonna play with ourselves. As always, the winner of today's game will win the grand prize of hosting the next installment of Stab in the Dark. The loser has to chug a whole gallon of milk in five minutes.

SPEAKER_02

Gross.

SPEAKER_01

Who's ready to play? Always ready. Yeah, it depends. Alright, let's jump right in. This game will consist of three rounds and then a final stab in the dark with the point totals going up each round. During the final stab in the dark, whatever points you've accumulated, you can wager any amount of those points on the final question. Round one. I still haven't come up with a creative title for this round. It's called Name Them. I will give you a category. We should call it. You should call it who that it could be a what that or a where that. Yeah. But anyway, this is name them. And you have. I will give you a category. Name as many answers that you can that will fit that category. You two will alternate giving answers. If you repeat an answer, you are out. If you guess wrong, you are out. And in this round, correct answers are worth one point apiece. I'm gonna throw a little curveball in here. I'm gonna go by baseball rules and say three strikes, you're out. So if you like to pick on the fringes instead of the dead ass obvious ones, the other person can steal if you're wrong for a point, but also you get three chances before you are out of the round. So like family feud style, too, huh? Kind of. I guess so. I guess you could say that. Yeah, so that way it's not just like you make one wrong guess, you're done, you only get one point. Try to knock a few more off the list at least. I'm so worried about when we're gonna start playing with ourselves. You haven't started yet? Oh, both hands are on the table, right? No, Charlie's not. Nope. Oh right. The first category. In 2024, Variety magazine and their staff compiled a list of the 100 best movies, horror movies of all time. Here's the catch. I don't want you to guess the top 10, and I'm not listing 100 movies out. So I want you to give you, I want you to give me as many horror films as you can from 11 through 50. So you have to pick the great ones, but not the champ champs. I also have some hits. Not the champ champs. All right. We've talked about variety a couple times on our podcast. They're very harsh critics. They've been around since 1905. They have an affinity for the classics. Okay. Of the 40 movies on this list, 21 of them came out before 1970. Four of the films on this list we've actually covered on our podcast so far. And five of them are on our short list of tent poll films that we will cover eventually. Some of them may include ones we've also done as well. Include those are our all-hand picks. So keep that in mind as you think about the 40 movies you're going to alternate back and forth.

SPEAKER_00

I foresee three strikes for each of us in a row.

SPEAKER_01

Justin, because you were hosted last time, you will get to go first and then Charlie and then Justin back and forth. So Fariety magazine, 100 best horror movies as of 2024. I want the 40 between 11 and 50. Ready? Set. Go, Justin. Okay. Can I get Psycho? Psycho is not on the list. Strike one. Holy shit. Alien. Alien is on the list. Damn it. Number 11. Boo, Razor's Edge. I'm pretty sure Psycho was in the top 10, like number two, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, I know. I'm just like you mentioned that 21 are of those, the 40 that we're working with are before 1970.

SPEAKER_02

So I'm trying to find.

SPEAKER_01

Charlie, that was a steal for a point. Now you get to take your turn.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. How about Bride of Frankenstein?

SPEAKER_01

Bride of Frankenstein is on the list. Number 40. Justin. Your turn. Okay. Can I get Evil Dead 2? Evil Dead 2 is on the list. Number 34. I will go with Evil Dead. Evil Dead is not on the list. Strike one to Charlie. Justin, you get to steal and then take your turn. Can I get The Shining? The Shining is on the list. At number 18. Too far down, in my opinion. But it is on the list. And now you get to take your turn. Okay, so I've got what? Two of our ten points.

SPEAKER_02

I'm stalling. I'm stalling big time here.

SPEAKER_01

Jaws? Jaws is not on the list.

SPEAKER_02

That's two stark strikes for me.

SPEAKER_01

That is two strikes. So now, Charlie, you get to steal, and then you get to go. The wolf man. The wolf man is, I don't believe, on the list. It is not on the list. Question. That was your steal, now you get to go.

SPEAKER_02

Does the X count as on the steals, too, or no?

SPEAKER_01

No. No.

SPEAKER_02

Shit.

SPEAKER_01

Sheetaki. Let's go. Let's try Rosemary's baby. Rosemary's baby was not on the list.

SPEAKER_02

You probably have in the top 10.

SPEAKER_01

Top 10 for sure. Yeah, it was. So that is strike two for Charlie. You both have two strikes. Justin, you get to steal.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I'm going to steal? I'm going to steal Dawn of the Dead.

SPEAKER_01

Dawn of the Dead is on the list. Number 23.

SPEAKER_02

How about it? Wait, wait. That was the steal. Ah, stone.

SPEAKER_01

This is your turn turn. That was the steal. My turn turn. Oh, goodness. Uh, can I get Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Texas Chainsaw Massacre is not on the list. I'm done. If I'm not mistaken, that might have been number one. Yeah. So that was three strikes. You're out, Justin. Knight of the Living Dead. Knight of the Living Dead, I think, is not on this list. I believe that was way up higher on the list, but that was your steal. Oh, yeah. So this is your last.

SPEAKER_00

You can answer as many times as you want until you're wrong. Pre-1970. So like 20 of them are pre-1970. Mm-hmm. How about God?

SPEAKER_02

What's the name of that movie? Um Psycho.

SPEAKER_03

What? Not even saying.

SPEAKER_02

Shoot. Let's just go with Psycho.

SPEAKER_01

Did already Dracula. Dracula is on the list. Good one, Charlie. Which one? 1931. Okay. How about Brahms Stoker's Dracula? That is not on the list. Okay. Strike three. Both of you ended up with three points. I will quickly run through the list here starting at the end. We got six of four. Starting at 50, going through 11. So starting at 50. Onibaba from Japan. The Witch, The Birds, Godzilla, The Thing, The Invisible Man, Manhunter, Vampire, 28 Days Later, The Devils, Quadian, Freaks, Deep Red, Hereditary, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, M, The Night Hunter, Ringu, Eyes Without a Face, The Phantom of the Opera, the oldest movie on this list at 1925, The Wicker Man, Dracula, The Innocent, The Innocents, Scream, The Blair Witch Project, Carnival of Souls, Black Sunday, Get Out at number 20, The Mummy, 1932, Diabolique, Halloween at number 16, Don't Look Now, Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror. I'm sorry, that was 1922, so that is older than Phantom of the Opera. Silence of the Lambs at number 13, King Kong at 12, and as Charlie said, Alien at number 11. King Kong. Some of these are just like you have like they had to say it, but like they're not, they don't hold up to some of the shit that's come out recently. Of course, you know. Of course. Yeah. But you both scored three points in that first round. Second category of round number one, it is your favorite. It's wrestling corner. Pro wrestlers often take a turn in Hollywood at some point, sometimes in horror films. I want you to list the wrestler and the movie they starred in to get the point. Don't just throw out a popular name that doesn't get you the point. Same rules as before. Three strikes and you're out. Your opponent can steal for a point. If a wrestler appears in two or more films, just name one film per turn, or else I'll choke slam you straight to hell. Um the same wrestler can be picked again for the second film, if applicable, or more films. Charlie, this time you get to go first. Are you ready? I'm ready. There are 24 wrestlers on this list. Okay. Go. Rowdy Rowdy Piper in Bade Piper. Uh-oh. That is correct. Good one.

unknown

Justin.

SPEAKER_01

Am I going now? Yep. Can I like it's it's a fringer. It's it's a um The Rock in Doom. We mentioned Doom. That is correct.

SPEAKER_02

All right.

SPEAKER_01

How about Triple H in Blade Trinity? That is correct. You guys love your wrestling. You say you don't. I'm out. I'm gonna start thinking. For sure, we're gonna do Goldberg in Slay. What is it saying to Slay? Correct. You guys are doing better at this than the top 50 horror movies of all time.

SPEAKER_02

What about The Rock in Jumanji?

SPEAKER_01

That's not a horror movie. Scorpion King. Mummy Scorpion. Yes, that is correct. You're gonna mess around and win this shit, Charlie. What the hell do you want? You're messing around and winning this shit.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, so I want to say it's Chris Jericho in Terrifier 2. Correct. Damn. I don't think I have any left. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you got some guesses because you got three strikes. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

So that's uh do you get a half a point for just the the act the actor, the movie the wrestler in the movie. You can say actor, it's okay. Uh let's see. I'll take an X on this one.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Justin, you get a steal. Oh wow. And then you get your turn. Oh, a steal first, so I can just this is just shits and giggles here.

SPEAKER_02

I know that the that C Punk guy, is that his name? C Punk. CM Punk. CM Punk was in a movie called like Her House or His House or something like that, but it's it's not coming to me.

SPEAKER_01

That's not close enough for me to give it to you. What's the name of the movie? Well, I don't know if I'll tell you at the end. But that is just a steal, so now it's your turn. Ah shit, mom. Or you can come up with the the actual name of that movie. Okay. Which is not close to what you said. Not close to what you said. It's like. Oh yeah, I won't worry about that. I'll try not to worry about it. Okay. How about Under the Giant and Princess Bride? Not a horror movie. Not a horror movie. But those are rats that live in the uh swap. That was Strike One, Justin, Charlie.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh, man, I still haven't uh give me a few seconds to think of something. You got one. Chisel. I know you got one. Five seconds.

SPEAKER_01

Damn, you got that clock pulled on you. Well, he's got that uh, you know, he got a heart out later, so yeah, speed is up. All right, that's your steal. You got another guess, or you want your second strike? Oh, that was for the steal.

SPEAKER_00

Give me five more seconds. Yep. On the clock. God dang it. So I know this is a lot easier than I got nothing.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, strike two, Charlie. Justin. Are you ready to kick yourself in the butt? Sure. Jesse the body ventura, predator. Correct. God damn it. That's a steal for a point. And now you get to take your turn, Justin. Uh Arnold never did any wrestling. I mean, unless he did.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think he did. Shit. Yeah, I'm gonna have to probably bow out on this one.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like Goldberg was something in something else, though. Alright. That's two strikes for Trustin. Charlie, you get a steal and a chance. Okay. If you got anything. Came out like rockets, man. I know. Five more seconds. Nothing. And you change five more seconds to come up with an answer. Got double nothing. Double nothing. Three strikes. Charlie's out. Justin. Steal and a turn. Sergeant Slaughter. And nothing. I got nothing. Nothing. Do you want to take one more guess?

SPEAKER_00

CM Punk and the third floor.

SPEAKER_01

It's called the girl on the third floor.

SPEAKER_00

That should count. Nope. That should count. That should count.

SPEAKER_01

Since you're not wrestling fans, I'll give that one too.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

I'll give that one. You're not wrestling fans. Alright, one more. Or you can. You got any more? X me out there. Alright, you're done on that one. So CM Punk in the girl on the third floor. One, two, three, four. Justin scored five that round. Charlie scored three that round. Bringing our total so far to Justin with eight. Charlie with six. The other ones, Kane.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You guys know who Kane is? The Undertaker's brother. The Undertaker set his face on fire when they were kids. Yeah. He was in C No Evil and then the sequel. He's also currently mayor of Knoxville, Tennessee. Nice. Really? Yeah. Tor Johnson. This one goes back away. I don't even know who that is. Plan 9 from Outer Space, A Knight of the Ghouls, and then George the Animal Steel played Tor Johnson in the film Ed Wood. Oh, fun. George the Animal Steel used to like chew on turnbuckles and like eat the foam and shit. And then my dad one time came in when I was watching WrestleMania. He's like, huh, that guy has a master's degree. Funny. Diamond Dallas Page, DDP, played in the Devil's Rejects. Okay. Shane Douglas, Rowdy Rowdy Piper, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Matt Hardy, and Kurt Angle were in Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies from 2014. I think we need to check that one out. Kevin Nash and Jimmy Hart were in Monster Brawl. Also, Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Sid Vicious, and Glacier played in River of Darkness. You guys got both of the rock horror movies, The Memory Returns and Doom. That was Hulkan was in Gremlins 2, the new batch. I forgot he was in that. Fuck that guy. Dave Batista, Army of the Dead. For sure. Knock at the Cabin. Tyler Main, The Devil's Rejects, and Michael Myers and Rob Zombie Halloween. Hornswoggle. Leprechaun Origins. I don't know. Any of the words you just said.

SPEAKER_02

Horn Swaggle? What the fuck is that?

SPEAKER_01

It's it's he plays in Leprechaun Origins, so you can guess what he is. He's a little guy. And Maurice, who obviously is married to Mike the Miz. The Miz. Some people call me Maurice. She was in Sharknado 3 and Isle of the Dead. Nice. There you go. Wrestling Corner for this game show. That was fun. That was fun. All right. So Charlie, Charlie, you are trailing, so you'll go first in this last category. This is horror at the box office for 2024 and 2025. I took the top 10 in box office earnings from both 24 and 25 off of Wikipedia. I want you both to name the top 15 horror films in box office totals from this these two years and the lead actor's favorite wrestler from said movie.

SPEAKER_00

You're making that up. Just kidding. Just kidding.

SPEAKER_01

You're probably thinking, how'd I get to 15 if I have two top 10 lists? Well, five of them, in my opinion, don't count as horror films. If you go to IMDB, look at these, the word horror, it's not listed anywhere. I'm not we're not the gatekeepers, but for this exercise exercise, I'm not counting them. The fifth the five films that I'm uh leaving off here are Jurassic World Rebirth. Yeah, yeah, that's fair. Demon Slayer, Infinity Castle, whatever the fuck that is. It's an anime and it's good stuff. Godzilla Kong The New Empire. Those are just goofy. Ghostbusters, Frozen Empire, and Chainsaw Man, the movie, Colonel Reezy Arc. Reze Arc. Reze Arc. Yeah, it's a good story. So 15 films, Charlie. You will go first. Same thing. Three strikes, you're out. Go ahead. Weapons? Weapons is on the list. $268.2 million. One, two, three. Sixth on my list. We're going to go with Final Destination Bloodlines. Correct. Fifth on the list. $315.3 million. Charlie.

SPEAKER_02

How about Heretic?

SPEAKER_01

Heretic not on the list. Strike one. Justin, you get a steal and a choice. Sinners. Sinners, number three on the list. $367 million. And now you get your pick. Now you get your pick.

SPEAKER_02

I'm trying to think of the movies we reviewed for our 2025 thing.

SPEAKER_01

How about the monkey? The monkey is not on the list. That was for your choice, so that's strike one to you. So Charlie, you get a steal and a ch and a pick. I can't remember what year this.

SPEAKER_02

I think it was 23, maybe.

SPEAKER_01

How about Barbarian? That was three, yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Barbarian not on the list, but that was your steal, so now is your official pick. Shit. Scream seven? That's 2026. So that is also incorrect. Strike two, Charlie. Justin, you get a steal pick. Scream six. Scream six was 2020, was not on the list. Oh that was your steal, then you get another pick.

SPEAKER_02

Damn. Charlie got me all going down the middle.

SPEAKER_01

Did Scream 6 go to theater or was it direct to streaming? I think it went to the theater. Yeah, it was. I feel like it came out on Paramount. Like your mom went to theater. I feel like it was straight to Paramount streaming. OnlyFans. Maybe it was both at the same time. Maybe that's why the box office would have been lower. Box office shit the bed a little bit, huh? Yeah. Alright. So let's go with Hey, long legs. Long legs on the list, number 13. $128 million at number 13. About Alien Romulus. Alien Romulus is on the list. Number four, $350.9 million. Justin. I feel like there's some bullshit. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.

SPEAKER_02

The conjuring.

SPEAKER_01

The latest conjuring movie.

SPEAKER_02

It's Last Rights.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, Last Rights. Number one, $494 million.

SPEAKER_00

I hate those movies. Charlie.

SPEAKER_01

I got another one. No pressure on you, Charlie. Nine more on the list.

SPEAKER_02

Nine more on the list. 2435. How about I lost it.

SPEAKER_01

What I had.

unknown

Got it back.

SPEAKER_01

Nothing. I got nothing. Alright. Strike three. Charlie. Justin. Insidious Red Door. Not on the list. That was your steal. Now you get it.

SPEAKER_02

Was that the year? Was the year off on it? Or is it just more money?

SPEAKER_01

Didn't make enough money, I guess. Oh man. What about The Strangers Chapter 2? Incorrect. That is strike two. He didn't even let me finish the title he said I can't. I'm trying to speed this up. That's strike two, and you have uh one more guess. Oh. Was that a steal? No. The uh first thing he said, the insidious one was the steal. That one was your guess. Okay. So this is your strikes. Oh. Yeah, he's out. You got three strikes. So that was two strikes too.

unknown

Stall, stall, stall.

SPEAKER_02

Why am I drawing such a blank? Five seconds. No, no, no. No. No.

SPEAKER_01

Companion. Companion, not on the list.

SPEAKER_02

Oh.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So you got four. So Justin, you can currently have twelve points. Charlie has eight points. The ones you missed. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, $452 million. Quiet Place Day One, $261.8 million. Five Nights at Freddy's two, two hundred thirty eight. million dollars predator badlands 184.3 million nosferatu 181.3 million twenty eight years later 151.3 million smile two 138.1 million exuma it's 99 93.9 million and last on the list terrifier three ninety point three million there you go feel like terrifier came out a long time ago too that was the end of 24 all right so on to round number two your score is justin 12 charlie eight suck it charge round number two is roger ebert reviews we've done this one before I'm going to give you a decade and the horror subgenre for each category in this round each question in this round then I'll read an excerpt from the Roger Ebert review and you give me the movie Charlie your trailing so you go first you will pick a or b so that you know I'm not stacking it one way or the other for one of you and if you're wrong the other person can steal the first review is going to be from 1980s Psychological horror Charlie you get to go first A or B B B all right this is Roger Diebert gave this film two and a half stars from 1980s Psychological horror the movie is not at all shy about exploiting the possibility that a woman going to see one of these gynecologists might end up being seen by the other deadringer deadringers is correct but that is only the beginning of their deception correct Charlie Wow these are worth two points a piece of gynecologists like an idiot savant but without a savant these are worth two points by the way if I didn't mention that and then one one if you steal okay all right Justin your qu your review Roger Diebert gave this three and a half stars no I'm joking I'm joking doesn't count I'll answer three and a half stars no other king novel has been better filmed certainly not the recent dreadful Cujo and Cronenberg who knows how to handle terror now also knows how to create three dimensional fascinating characters they all work together to take a movie that could have been just another scary thriller and turn it into a believable thriller which is of course even scarier holy shit this is 80s psychological horror I'm gonna kick myself in the damn face that'd be impressive to see that would be real fucking impressive how about the dark half that's incorrect Charlie do you want to steal for a point needful things incorrect this is the dead zone Christopher Walking I didn't know Cronenberg did that green that's what threw me off because there wasn't a lot of like stuff that Cronenberg normally does in that one. Yeah all right so Charlie two points that round second review this is Monsters and Aliens from 2010 the 2010s monsters and aliens Justin you get to go first this round okay A or B A A Alright Brian Tallerico gave this three and a half stars we live in such a noisy world that it's hard to imagine that constant sound being taken away this film weaponizes that part of the human condition in a way that owes a debt to films like Alien but also charts its own new ground so many great horror films are about people who have to adapt to survive this and you said this is monsters and aliens are there other clues 2010 okay so this is quiet place. It is a quiet place correct quiet place from 2019 all right Charlie your review Roger Ebert gave Roger Eber gave this two and a half stars this thing journeys the cosmos and mimics the aliens it encounters then it reveals its true appearance which is hideous and a leaky smorgasbord of palpitating organs claws teeth crab legs lobster tails beaks snakey appendages and gooey dripping eyeballs it doesn't say much for life in the universe that with whole galaxies to choose from that's the best body it could come up with 2010 Monster's Aunt Slither incorrect Justin do you want to steal Slither Slither's gonna be a pick one day yeah it's so good beaks dripping eyeballs travel no I got nothing for the steal all right through your little curveball this is the thing 2011 the remote oh okay of course right off the bat I'm like you're not thinking of the thing when I say 2010s yeah but yeah that's uh it was the thing 2011 the prequel the yes yes the one with your girl in it yeah all right now third third review this is 1990s and dealer's choice so I just picked two movies from the 90s Charlie you get to pick A or B B B all right Roger D. Ebert gave this three stars for all of the creepy crawly shocks in the film it never goes over the edge into sheer disgusting horror it main it maintains a certain humorous edge especially in the scenes involving the friendly local exterminator who throws away his biodegradable and ecologically sound chemicals and gets out the dangerous stuff. Oh god damn it's right there I know what it is I can it is what is it Jeff Daniels it is five seconds John Goodman oh my god I can't believe right there I can't remember the name is oh arachnophobia correct arachnophobia glad you pulled that I was rooting for you on that because you know arachnophobia I love that movie I had the other one yeah give me that this is just straight dealers' choice yeah this could be anything Roger Ebert gave this a perfect four star review because their imaginations have been inflamed by talk of witches hermits and child murderers in the forest because their food is running out and their smokes are gone they and we are a lot more scared than if they were merely being chased by some guy in a ski mask. At a time when digital techniques can show us almost anything this film is a reminder that what really scares us is the stuff we can't see. The noise in the dark is almost always scarier than what makes the noise in the dark. Any kid can tell you that the village incorrect Charlie do you want to steal can you read it again?

SPEAKER_00

No The Village that describes the village and it could be anything.

SPEAKER_01

Because their imaginations have been inflamed by talk of witches, hermits and child murderers in the forest because their food is running out and their smokes are gone they and we are a lot more scared than if they were merely being chased by some guy in a ski mask. At a time when digital techniques can show us almost anything this film is a reminder that what really scares us is the stuff we can't see. The noise in the dark is almost always scarier than what makes the noise in the dark any kid can tell you that I have another guess and I hated it. I can't think you hated it too I think I can't think of it. Can't think of it can I get like just no points is that they come at night no that's a 2000 teach yourselves yeah probably when did what you it was dealer's choice so we didn't know the 90s right I said 90s yeah fast again I said it couldn't be anything but I said nineties okay I I missed that part sorry the Blair Witch project 1999. Okay come on guys all right it also describes the village well it wasn't all right who let's see Charlie went to that one Justin you will go first here fourth review is two thousands and this is paranormal slash supernatural oh is this another another Roger Ebert? Yeah so you need to pick A or B. Let's go with B. B. Stealing Charlie's B. Alright Roger Ebert gave this one and a half stars the half angels and half devils are earthly proxies in the war between God and Satan you would think that God would be the New England patriots of this contest but apparently there's a chance that Satan could win. The protagonist's lonely mission is to track down half demons and cast them back into the fires below. Like Blade the vampire killer he is surprisingly optimistic considering he is one guy in one city dealing on a case by case basis and the enemy is global. And this is nineties no the 2000s okay this is paranormal supernatural this is Constantine maybe that's correct Constantine maybe I said maybe it's open Constantine colon maybe no I'm sorry that's incorrect is incorrect Justin or I'm sorry Charlie your review Roger Ebert gave this three stars this is 2000s paranormal and supernatural Paul Schrader's film does something risky and daring in this time of jaded horror movies. It takes evil seriously there really are dark satanic forces in the Schrader version which takes a priest forever scarred by the Holocaust and asks if he can ever believe in the grace of God two seconds I don't know I have no idea no idea Justin do you want to steal is it shit trying to think of some priest movies in the 2000s man no I I got nothing. Okay this was Dominion the prequel to the exorcist okay Dominion is it belonged to one of those scars guards in it yes and then they also made a different prequel to the exorcist like at the same time but like similar stories even some of the dialogue was the same but different directors it's weird it's a weird story and how that how all that happened was yeah agreed not big fans of each but all right fifth review Charlie you are currently trailing so you get to go first for our last review of round two this is 2020's slashers and killers you get your choice of A or B. 2020s slash 2020s A all right Simon Abrams gave this film one star there's a dopey twist at the end sorry there's a dopey twist at the end of and a lot of dead air throughout the 111 minute long possession thriller about a woman who's haunted by a vindictive killer who may or may not be her imaginary childhood friend. Juan's never been the most technically adept or sophisticated storyteller but his weaknesses as a filmmaker are especially apparent throughout ouch you know what it is don't you probably what years is 2020 then and I disagree wholeheartedly I disagree too I like this movie one star is that's harsh it's at least a two and a half I don't know I got nothing Justin to steal to steel I'm going to say malignant malignant is correct for one I keep trying to get Charlie to I watched it and it was shit all the way until the end was the best of the movie I'm not going to end was great all right Justin this is your review Nick Allen gave this three stars we're in 2020's Slashers and Killers this film is thrillingly pure in its nastiness and has more in common with 80s films like Mother's Day Graduation Day and New Year's Evil than its modern mainstream peers. The head chopping Who Done It doesn't use grindhouse aesthetics but it's a classic at heart the head chopping Who Done It holy shit this is a slasher in the 2020s it is three stars it is I probably liked it too I got nothing Charlie would you like to steal is it Thanksgiving it is Thanksgiving Charlie steals for a point all right oh no it was Thanksgiving I think that I mean the hints were there Mother's Day graduation day New Year's Eve so it's a hollow it's a holiday doesn't use grindhouse aesthetics so grindhouse is where the trailer or something guys you should feel dumb you've been awarded no points and may God have mercy on your soul let's see score after round one was what let's figure that out let's tally up the scores before we get to round three we were at eight and six and then we were at no we were at 12 and eight and you both got five points that round so Justin you lead with 17 Charlie you have 13 going into round three of stab in the dark oh did we each get a steal yes okay really quick let me circle back to the Blair Witch project do you think that's uh that's a that one I could rock with Teddy no the body count is like what zero one the on-screen body count is zero one because three gore level is zero right one one body count implied one definitely but still implied I mean yeah I mean it never really shows anything I think he just won't understand what's going on yeah I mean it's no like score to be like oh wait this is scary it's like a knapsack full of body parts so it's at least a glove teeth yeah okay yeah these are people just lost in the woods Teddy yeah right you think they'll get out always keep the just camping buddy always keep the mat man she was really scared there at the end because they got lost in the house I'll just call it like hey this is called the project they're making a project for school I won't say hey you want to watch the Blair Witch project because the BW project you know we'll see if it passes the Teddy all the way up her nose in that chat look who noses he's got so many boogers yeah that'll work yeah all right this last category we haven't done before this is round number three oh a new one this is called movie posters I'm gonna show you on my phone here a movie poster and you have to tell me what movie it's for whoa that picture's gross slip that's my bad sorry sack lunch that was anaconda my bad double double circumcised maniconda easy enough right look at a movie poster you tell me what the movie is right except the catch is I blacked out the title of the movie and anything that would be a dead giveaway of what it can be just showing us just showing us a blank screen over and over again in some I left the tagline in some may be easy some may take an educated stab in the dark. Two girls one never mind this will go similarly to the last round where there will be an A and a B question that you'll choose from so it's a random draw what post to see them kind of right you'll both get to see and one will answer the other could get a chance to steal okay I think the first round will be easier and then it'll get maybe a little bit tougher but that'll be up to you guys. Each correct answer is three points your opponent can steal for one point for an extra bonus point guess the year the film came out as well if you get the film right but not the year we will not have a steal for that but if you get the film wrong and the year wrong the other person can steal both. If you get the film wrong you can still guess the year for one point. Before I show you guys the posters and before you answer please let me describe the movie posters for our listeners. Oh yeah because it wouldn't be fun yeah yeah if you're listening you're probably like how can I play this one? Well I'm gonna describe it for you as best I can before you guys give me the answer. Justin Alright Charlie you are trailing 17 to 13 you will go first your first poster please choose A or B B B. Alright I will show you the movie poster before I do I'm gonna let you know we have a for our listeners we have a New York skyline at night in the background a silhouette of a lawman showing his shiny gold badge and the tagline across the top reads you have the right to remain silent forever oh that's a maniac copy maniac cop is correct three points for an extra point you want to guess the year it was 1988. That is correct as well Charlie boom four points right off the bat my you guys can't see this or hear that my jaw just hit the table because I have my moments anything in the 80s it seems like I just know like he knew yeah I mean these I I went easy on the first round we'll see great this is not this is a Justin this is yours this we have a yellow poster and most everything is blacked out prominently the title in the center the tagline at the top reads a masterpiece of modern horror 80s this is not it's uh doesn't say she can't tell you because then I'd have the year the shining it is the shining correct and what year did the shining come out for an extra point I should know that I'm not good with the year 78 it's incorrect 1980 oh I don't get to steal your year also lose your shining shirt and you must take down your Overlook hotel poster down off the wall. I haven't earned it there's so many other things in it take away my blanket from upstairs and take away so many things. If you didn't get that I must the yellow poster is a throw off because there's nothing about the movie that you'd be like the why is the thing I was thinking DC Cab with Mr. T. At least I got that two points you got three points second posters Charlie went first so Justin you get to pick now A or B. B alright I like hearing your descriptions B. Like last time you should have described the shade of yellow a little bit better. Okay canary chartreuse background this one we have an eggshell white background Mother of Pearl the poster shows the backside of a bruised woman with her shirt tattered panties barely there and she's holding a bloody kitchen knife this is this is for me right this is Justin this is I Spit on your grave this is I spit on your grave and it's the remake and it is what year for an extra point 2006. Incorrect 2010 but she got the three points for the movie Charlie your movie poster all right would it have counted if I didn't say it was the remake yeah it's the same title yeah same title it's gonna be ice button I just wanted people to know that I knew it was all right the movie poster here but we have a dark blue background a handwritten letter at the top in the center is a bloody knife going up through a white tennis shoe the tagline in the bottom right reads you won't be coming home slepaway camp sleepaway camp is correct and what year did that film come out eighty five close nineteen eighty three sleepaway camp was correct tell me close on I was two years away from the shiny not even close not even close you had the wrong decade all right third poster Charlie I like this poster one Charlie you get to go first here in our third third uh question A or B Vince Vega B Charlie goes B every time right yeah he does that's why you and A once throw everybody off nobody commented all right what you and A there you go a reverse outside all right on this movie poster we have a POV shot through a man's legs from behind four lingerie clad girls laying on the ground looking up at the man who is holding a drill with a crazy long auger tight bit the tagline reads close your eyes for a second and sleep forever sorority house masker close but not correct do you want to guess the year for a point 85 incorrect as well Justin you can steal the film and the year that's exactly what I would have said how about sorority camp or sorority house massacres that would just say I thought he said can't incorrect that could be it Justin that could be it I don't know man all right this one was Slumber Party Massacre I believe sorority house massacre is also a movie that's why I can't give you that it's right slumber party massacre from the poster 1982 I like that poster though it's a good one put it next to your pieces puzzle I want the pieces puzzle trust me all right Justin your poster for this round we have a man hugging a woman in a bathroom the reflection in the mirror is someone blacked out and what looks like a raven in the sky with lightning strikes around the tagline reads the man of your dreams is back Oh my gosh is this nightmare on Elm Street Part two? It is a nightmare on Elm Street Part two and the year eighty Close. 1985. Justin, three points. Okay. That's why it was. I understand why it was blacked out now. Yep. Is exactly Freddie with the hat and everything. It's like it actually like it's kind of it's Freddie's sweater, but the face is like falling apart, like the eyeballs hanging out. So the face, and I don't even think you see like the claws, if I'm not mistaken. But the claws are. You might actually. He might. But yeah. So yeah. Justin's so far gotten all three of his. Charlie's gotten two of his. But he got a year, right? And I have a that's right, yeah. And then all right, let's go to our fourth category. Justin, you get to pick here, A or B.

unknown

B.

SPEAKER_01

B. All right. While staring at Charlie, taking his taking his prize. Taking away. We have here a yellow backdrop with a large with a large but sexy woman picking up cars off a freeway. Like their Hot Wheels. No tagline on the poster. I have no idea the year, but it's the attack of the 50-foot woman, right? It is the attack of the 50-foot woman. Do you want to guess a year? 1961. 58. It is 1958. Can't steal the year. What happened was I ventriloquist did that. So you answered twice, is what you're saying. All right. Charlie. All right. We have a white poster with a drawing of a skinny, well-dressed man holding a flower pot and an umbrella. Behind him, we see the tagline that reads the funniest film of the year. That was not an optimistic O. If you could see what I blacked out, it would kind of give it away. I have no idea. It's old. Do you want to guess a year for a point? 61. No, it's not 61. You gotta guess. I gotta none. Justin, steal for a point. The funniest picture of the year. This is a like a New Yorker drawing here. Does look old as shit.

SPEAKER_02

Why's he got the umbrella and the freaking Rosemary's baby?

SPEAKER_01

The funniest picture of the year. If I didn't black out a Venus flytrap, would that give it a little shop before? It would be the Jack Nicholson one. Damn it. Probably. No, it's Little Shop Before is from 1960. Yeah, the one with Jack Nicholson in it. He's in the year. I did. He did his 1960. So anyway. Damn it. Yeah. Missed that one. I know you forgot that. Yeah, I do. And the musical and everything. Yeah. All right. Charlie, you are trailing. So you will get our last round here of posters. You get to go first, A or B. A. A. Alright. This poster, we have a retro theme with neon, maybe some laser, very stranger things looking like. Sharks had laser. Front and center is an escalator going up into the mouth of a metal skull. Oh. No tagline, but this is a shutter original. This is VHS 1986. Oh man. I want to give it to you. It's 84. It's 85. It's VHS 85.

SPEAKER_02

You can give them that one.

SPEAKER_01

I'll give you that one. Do you want to guess the year for a point? That came out 2017? No. 2023. Not even close to the city. But I'll give you, I'll give you. It's VHS 85. You're trailing. You were the year.

SPEAKER_00

Pity. Pity points. Pity points. What was the one you gave to him? He did give me a few.

SPEAKER_01

I gave you the CM Punk one. So alright, now I'm not giving away shit. The third floor. Remember, I had something on the middle of the house. The man in the house. No, wait. Then later I guess the third floor. The third floor. On the floor. There's a floor and three of them. You got it. Alright. Good job, Drew. Now I'm advocating for you to take away his points for that one. Now we have to get it exactly right and spell it. Our last poster here, guys. We have a Justin, this is for you. We have a blood red sky over a castle-like structure. In the foreground is a bald man leaning on a crescent moon blade type thing with the back of a woman whose buttocks are barely covered. Beastmaster. Tagline reads A Bizarre Descent into Hell from the Creator of Reanimator. Okay, I've never seen it, but I've picked up the box a million times when I was a child. This is Pitt and Pendulum. The Pit and the Pendulum is correct. He didn't say the. And this would be let's go 93. I think it's 1991. I thought that was gonna be a tough one to get because it's very popular.

SPEAKER_00

That is, did you would you have gotten it, Charlie? I would have been, I know what this is. Oh yeah, yeah. I think I watched it one time. I remember nothing about it. It was not good. Every time I walked past that box, I was like, I need to get this. Good thing you didn't. I was 11. So 10. Charlie. There's no way my mom would have loved it. The blockbuster staple.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

And just sat there the whole time. Nobody rented it.

SPEAKER_01

You guys killed it on the movie posters, man. We're visual learners. But we are, yeah. Justin, you got all five, but no years and no steals. So that was 15 points. Charlie got three plus a year. That's 10 points. The scores after round two were 17 to 13. So right now, our score going into our final stab in the dark is Justin with 32. Charlie with 23. And you get to aka win. Looks like Charlie doesn't. Wager as many points as you want on this final stab in the dark. I got 23. You have 23. Justin, you have 32. You have a nine-point lead. Final stab in the dark is a ranking question. I will give you three things to rank in order from lowest to highest. After hearing the question, you may wager as many points as you like, get it right and gain those points, get it wrong and lose those points. Then we'll see who wins today's game. For your final stab in the dark, I want you guys to put these three horror films in the order that they came out by year.

SPEAKER_00

So from oldest to newest, yes. Okay. Oldest would be number one. Yes. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm talking about the originals, not any remakes. Okay? They are A. The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the original. B, The Blob, the original. And C The Thing from Another World, the original. Make your wager. And put those three films in order. In the order that they were released. So oldest, first.

SPEAKER_02

What was the what was the third movie?

SPEAKER_01

The Thing from Another World. Which was what John Carpenter's The Thing was loosely based on. When you are ready, I will start with Charlie because he is trailing. Do you have your? Did you lock in your points?

SPEAKER_02

I locked in my points, I lock in everything.

SPEAKER_01

But like, should we should have to tell you our points now? That way, like I can't change, you know. Right. You you're right. You both have to tell me your points first, then we'll go over the answer. Okay. So locked in. But locked in your points. Charlie, what'd you pick for your points?

SPEAKER_00

23 points. All of it.

SPEAKER_01

Charlie bet it all. 23 points. You need to get this. So Charlie will finish with a score of zero or a score of 46. Yep. And then Justin, what was your wager? I wagered zero. I put all the pressure on Charlie. Justin put all the pressure on Charlie. So Justin finishes no fun with 32 points. No matter what. Alright. The year each film was released. Let me see your answers. I'll start with Charlie.

SPEAKER_00

The thing, blob, and body snatchers.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Charlie went C B A. Justin, your answer. I'm hoping he's wrong because I went thing, blob, invasion of the body snatcher. So you did the same answer. CBA. Let's see. The thing from another world was released in 1951. The blob was released in 1958. Oh, damn it. Invasion of the Body Snatcher was released in 1956. Oh the answer is the answer is C A B.

SPEAKER_00

Thing Invasion Blob.

SPEAKER_01

Invasion 1951. Okay, okay. Or I'm sorry, the thing, the thing from another world, 1951, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, 1956, The Blob 1958. The final answer is cab C A B. So it looks like you bow in by getting zero. Yeah, no points. May God have mercy on your souls. Which means with a score of 32 to zero, Justin is our winner and our next host. Congratulations, Justin.

SPEAKER_00

Congratulations. Yeah, Charlie's like kind of upset, kind of not upset. Well, yeah, I'm a competitor. I always want to win, but this is something like you don't want to win. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I like to win. I'm competitive for competitive.

SPEAKER_00

It's like being the I better not say that. Alright, guys.

SPEAKER_01

So, Justin, next time we do Stab in the Dark, you're putting the game together. I can do that. I'll play against Charlie and maybe another if we have another guest in town or something. We'll see. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks for playing, guys. Hope you like that. You played at home. Thanks for playing along. Thank you for putting this together. My play. And the movie posters, that was a great new round. Like that. Thank you. Well, yeah, because you got all of them right. I'm gonna do that next time with like the hardest posters imaginable. Come for me. Come for me. I know, right? If I was walking around Blockbuster, I'm gonna know it. So like anything after like 2015, yeah, I won't know shit. Right. That's true.
