I'm just gonna back in the brain.

SPEAKER_01

Welcome to the All Gut So Gory podcast. I am Mike, joined as always by Charlie and Justin. And tonight we are starting the first of, I guess, a six-part series, guys. We're gonna do something new for six weeks of mini episodes here, where we're going to build a crew, not a necessarily a cast, but we're gonna build a crew of a team that would make for a good horror movie. That is their objective, I think we landed on, right? Like the best crew that would make for an awesome horror movie. If like these six people were in it, that's gonna make for an awesome horror movie. And what were do you remember the categories that we're going to touch on? I do, yeah. So six different tropes or character archetypes that we're gonna list. And tonight we're gonna start with heroes. We have to have a leader for our team before we pick the rest of our team. So we're gonna have our hero or our leader. We're gonna do another episode where we talk about the comic relief character, that archetype on the crew. We're gonna have the heart or the moral compass character. We're gonna talk about the brains, the smart person on the crew. We're also gonna talk about the weasel, the backstabber, the dickhead, the asshole, the person on the crew that dies, and everybody's like, Finally, yes, exactly. And we're also gonna talk about the muscle that that person on the crew. There's always somebody that's a jock or that's jacked to the gills and puts up a strong fight against the big bad and whatever horror movie, but maybe just doesn't quite overcome. But so we have hero or leader, comic relief, heart, moral compass, the brains, the smart one, backstabber, weasel, dickhead, and we have muscle. Six six categories, and then we're gonna start tonight with our leader, our hero, the person whose name is gonna be atop the poster, or at least like probably the first name on the credits, if it's not, you know, the big bad on the poster.

SPEAKER_03

And we know what you're thinking. Predator already exists and it already has a perfect crew, right? But we're gonna throw a twist on here. If the hero is from Predator, no one else will be from Predator. Yeah, right? Correct. That will keep us from, you know, just also the franchise, right? The IP in general. So it's not like we can have Ripley from Alien and then Hicks from Alien Aliens or Alien 2, right? As Charlie likes to say.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so we do have you that ground rule. Now, other I think we're all three gonna build an individual crew. So at the end of our episode, we'll each have our our leader of our crew for much like our picks, much like our shelves that we're building with our movies that we're picking.

SPEAKER_03

It is going to be our preference on from the from the crews from the categories we've built. We're gonna build one each episode, but from that, we're going to pick our favorite crew.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and it's not like we're building the somebody may have already said it. We're not building a we want to survive this. Oh, I'd like to this horror movie. We are going to put the the best hero. We're gonna put this guy was the the comic relief, the funniest person to fill all these situations, all these archetypes, and most of the people are gonna die. That's that's a given. But but if the movie we could put together a uh a group of people for the movie to fulfill all of these character requirements, that would be a great movie.

SPEAKER_01

The the question at the very end would be I guess here's three different crews that we have built. Which movie do you want to see based on the crew? Right? That's kind of the objective, yeah. All right, so that that will be our objective. That was the only rule I think we came up with was you can only pick on your crew one character from a franchise. You have to keep your shirt on.

SPEAKER_00

You can't pick villains. You're right. Like Jason can't be your brawn.

SPEAKER_03

He also chased gonna kill all your people. Freddie can't be your comic relief, right? Right, yeah, exactly. It's gonna kill all your people. It was something when in the early phases, it's like, I'm gonna put I'm gonna be you know different because you know, sometimes it's fun to be different. Justin.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, exactly. So, Justin, do you want to talk about how you came up? And we're also gonna do a top five for each of these, but and then I guess the number one will be the leader of our crew. Do you want to talk about what went into making your top five and how you rank them and how you came to your number one?

SPEAKER_03

Sure. As with the other two people in this room with me right now, we are we are massive fans, we've seen thousands of movies, probably hundreds of them being horror movies, right? So, like we have to rely on a little bit of list sometimes, so you know, other people's thoughts and stuff, but mostly I I'm gonna end with my heart, but I did set up, let's see, one, two, three, four categories, and I gave it a scale of one to ten per category and gave it a total. So that helped me start the process of weeding down which one were my top five. The leader did have the highest score, but not all of them were in order, right? I did eliminate some based on I didn't really want them as a part of my crew.

SPEAKER_00

What about you guys? Charlie? Oh, okay. So what I my first thing was obviously, you know, are they a badass? Yes. Okay, right. They you have to reach, you have to clear that bar to be on this list. Second was how many supporting characters survive with this person as the hero and leading? Right? How effective, like who gets the most people out? That was gonna be a category for me, too. And second was just like badass, or third was just like who's the badass again? And then fourth was like, you know, could could I have a drink with this person? And could you have a drink? Like, do I like those? Are they relatable? How do they come across on screen?

SPEAKER_03

Talk about feelings and shit with them.

SPEAKER_00

Feelings and shit.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I gotcha. So I I guess I forgot to mention what my categories were. First category for me was threat scale, second category was hero scale slash readiness, third was toughness, so physicality, and then fourth one was intelligence and resourcefulness. Those were my four like way to look at it. But like I do like the badass. It should have been the badass. I should add a fifth category of outcome, like who had the best outcome for their group.

SPEAKER_01

Just simple for me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So I did something similar to Justin. I created five categories that I thought were the that I think were like the categories that would matter the most. And I may, because I have some ties, may need to add weights to some of those or do some tiebreakers and add like a half a point for. Or which category do you think is more important? Yeah, exactly. So my five categories were bravery. How do they stand up to their the villain in their film? Like Charlie, I didn't know what to call it, but I called it win-loss record. Like how many losses do people suffer under your watch? It's a plus plus minus. Usually it's it's a it's a hard filter to pass, you know. Yes, yep. I I put mental strength because I feel like muscle is going to be one of our categories, so I wanted to say physical strength for that. So I put mental strength, like how do they operate under pressure? Okay, do they crack? Yeah, yeah, and then I have resourcefulness, like Justin, I think, had, which is their ability to improvise, their ability to think on their feet, use what's around and readily available to defeat the villain. And then kind of like sports, I did strength of opponent, almost like strength of schedule. Like, who was it that you defeated? Was it somebody that's incredibly hard to defeat? Was it a you know, a man? Was it an immortal villain that you just temporarily defeated for this purpose of the film you were in, but then they come back later because you can't kill this person, like some of the villains, like a lot of villains in horror movies? Is it an animal? Is it an alien? I don't know. Like, you know, there's there's levels to the strength of the opponent you're going against.

SPEAKER_03

That was kind of my threat scale. It was like, does this is this a neighborhood Spider-Man job, or is this a job for the whole Avengers, right? Kind of thing, where it's like, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Where either way the city's gonna end up destroyed and there's gonna be tons of collateral damage of people displaced. But no, they're supposed to be the good guys, right? Wow, coming out strong for Hydra. He's a Hydra apologist. So Hydra apologists. I don't I don't know what those words are, but sure. I don't know what Hydra is, to be honest. Oh, wait, that's that's like the Nazi group, isn't it? Yeah, from Captain America. I mean, I guess you could be uh thank you. Instead of saying Nazis, they're like they're Hydra, right? Oh, they're worse than the Nazis. Oh, way worse. Like Hydra is who they fought in who Captain America fights in World War II. They were but like they were before the Nazis, yeah. Yeah, like they were. Yeah, no, I'm not a Hydra apologist. I don't know. No, thank you. That's not what I'm saying. No, thank you. No, thank you. Don't don't don't group me in with them. Don't group me. Sounds like they had some good points in your buttons. No, no, no, no, no. Okay, but you know, it is hilarious that like Superman will fight Batman and then the city's just collapsing like 18 earthquakes just happened, and they're like, We won. I'm like, did you?

SPEAKER_00

Have you guys seen the other guys? Yeah, with uh yeah, they cover that. I mean, they they they smartly put that in the script. Like, I mean, you guys blew up all this shit and stopped like two guys from stealing someone's handbag. Like, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

What's the upside to this? Exactly. Exactly. So I I gave my categories, I ranked each hero here that I listed on a scale of one to five. So they could have earned a possible 25 points.

SPEAKER_03

But um and then I basically mine was on a 10-point scale.

SPEAKER_00

So there was I did no points.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, like, you guys really because we like dramatic flair, we're gonna start in order of fifth and in with our highest, the champ champ of our thing. Okay, okay, yeah. All right, just if we have a tie, like if other people are like, oh, they're third, let's okay.

SPEAKER_00

Well I planned on doing was I have an honorable mention I'm gonna name, and then I'm going to You want to do that first, honorable menson? Yeah, I'm gonna give it to my honorable mention who didn't make the list, and then I'm gonna go through them in alphabetical order, so no particular order. And then I'm gonna give my number five. That's crazy talk, man. So you'll hear all of who is swimming around in my head, and then I'll drop the who's on the bottom all the way up. Okay, that's interesting.

SPEAKER_03

Don't like it. All right, who wants to start this thing? Go for it, you do it. All right, so let's let's talk a little bit about we had so I had four categories, each one went up to 10. I had a high score of 31 and a low score of 18 in the looks like nine or ten cat people that I picked. So there was a big delta there. Some notable honorable mentions that I'll mention. Ha ha mention the honorable mention. Erin from your next. I feel like she is such a badass in that movie that she deserves notice. She scored pretty much, she qualified for my top five, but she's not gonna make it just because there's one movie, super low stakes. See, that's the kind of cuts that I'm making. The stakes were like, oh, it's a family dinner, and she's got to survive this family dinner kind of thing because invasion movie. So it's like that threat is a two out of ten in my book. Very localized, it's very specific. So that's that's why some characters didn't make my list. But without any further ado, oh, actually, Clarice didn't Clarice Starling didn't score highly in my four categories, unfortunately. She did well in hero scale readiness, she stepped up to the plate and for intelligence resourcefulness, but the other two categories she didn't score well. But so notable character, awesome character. She's in our hall of fame, I think, for protagonists. But but yeah, let's let's go. Number five on my list is Sydney Prescott. Okay. Coming in with a score of 22, she scored pretty much like when you're playing a video game and it's and Mario's a character, Mario's like the average at everything, like just solid at all categories at the strength, jumping, speed, everything. So Sydney Prescott is my Mario. Obviously, she is in the Scream franchise, she is Scream one through five and seven, so she was not in six, but solid number five for me. Was she on anybody else's list? Nope. She was on my honorable mention. Honorable mention. Okay, awesome. I I thought we would have already double overlapped.

SPEAKER_01

We made a top five, but I picked ten to get to my five, and she was my number ten.

SPEAKER_03

I picked nine or ten to get to my five, and she was five for me. So scale threat scale was you know five because I mean she's like it's not just they she is coming. Yeah, yeah. And that now that I say it out loud, compared to the other.

SPEAKER_01

Compared to a xenomorph ghost face compared to xenomorphic xenomorph is we'll talk about xenomorph here in a little bit. But like oh, you're just saying out of ten. Out of ten.

SPEAKER_03

I might just ten-point scale, yeah, yeah. So it's the name. So on a five-point scale, it'd be a two and a half, right? So, like, but yeah, it's it's Sydney Prescott, her threat level is it's not just her, it's her friend group, it's everybody in the high school, it's everybody in the town. I mean, and she's done, she does admirably. You know, she at first she starts reluctant, but like after that, she knows that she's got a target on her and she's prepared.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, that's it. All right, I feel like you know, I had her so low because I think all of her friends die. So her win-loss record is one out of five. I didn't have a plus-minus in mine, though. Not very resourceful just because she's well, yeah, but not resourceful because there's not much she could use against you know, ghost face in her scenario. So it's not like there's a lot of improvising going on.

SPEAKER_03

Dude, that double door lock system she had was in genius.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I said two, two, not one. And strength of opponent, I mean ghost face is a dude. So it's it's a one out of five. That's just bad architecture.

SPEAKER_00

She got lucky.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So I mean that and but yeah, I mean, Hall of Fame, badass protagonist, but and her post nut clarity made her realize that the one phone call came from inside the prison itself. All right, who's next? Charlie, are you next? You want me to go next? Going around the table. We're going around the table, and I'm next. Okay. My number five, one, two, three, two. Wait, start with or was Sydney your honorable mention you want to talk about? I just I mean, I just did. I I'll say my honorable mention at number six is Clarice Starling. Bravey bravery is a five. She goes right in that house. Uh, like with zero backup um against Buffalo Bill. Win loss record is high. I gave it a four out of five. You know, I nobody really dies under her watch. She saved the real big factory. Yeah. Sorry.

SPEAKER_03

That was a reference to come back here, you fucking bitch.

SPEAKER_01

Her mental strength is a five, obviously. Sure. Super brainy, brainiac. Resourcefulness again, just there's not much improvising she could do. It's a it's a one.

SPEAKER_03

She used her daredevil skills in the dark, though.

SPEAKER_00

Shout out the lights. I have a question. Uh-oh. So does this meet the intent of the rules? I put Claire Reese somewhere in my brains list.

SPEAKER_03

You can put her wherever.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, she's a main character.

SPEAKER_03

I think she's the protagonist in the heroes. So I can't use the protagonist as a brains.

SPEAKER_01

I think we we didn't mention that, but we did talk about that before we started or last time we got together and we were drawing up the rules. We can't use like the lead as like a pr as someone. I see where Charlie's coming from. So like you can't use like Arnold and Predator as your muscle. You can use someone else from Predator as your muscle, but you can't use your lead. Well, she's gone. So you can't use Clarice as your brains. Well, you've got weeks to think of that. I wonder what you do in brains category. I don't know. We don't know which one we're doing next. Well probably I do have it in in order written down because we did talk about the order. And we want to do comic relief last. Something like that. Where are we at? Or weasel. Where where were we at? We're doing yeah, hero first, then weasel next, then moral compass, then the muscle, then the brain, then the comic relief.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, that'll be next.

SPEAKER_03

No, it's gonna be tricky not to have so moral compass is often the protagonist, too. So like it's gonna be tricky to find yeah, one tricky, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We'll do it though.

SPEAKER_00

So maybe we should make exceptions for some maybe. We'll vote on it. Okay, we're good. We got the rules, we got the rules.

SPEAKER_01

And yeah, I also gave her a one for strength of opponent because Buffalo Bill, again, is just a guy, just so a one in comparison to other horror villains, right? So she just missed my top five. My number five is Grace Lodomas from Ready or Not. Bravery, a four. She is four out of five. She does not back down, she is active in playing the game and fighting it, and even though she does try to get away when it doesn't work, she's very active in trying to live this thing out. Yep. Win-loss record is a five because she is on her own. There is the only people that die are the other people trying to kill her. So she does not cause anyone in the heart. One the brother, he's the brother.

SPEAKER_03

Adam Brody dies. Like, and he's kind of that's not her fault, though.

SPEAKER_00

She can't her fault.

SPEAKER_02

He's on the other team.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. He's on the other team, right? And she does save her sister in the second movie. Yeah, whoa, whoa, whoa. Spoiler alert.

SPEAKER_01

It's been out for long enough. I figure it's right. I have yeah, yeah. Mental strength three, I gave it middle of the road. Like, she's not definitely not dumb, but I don't think she's like is like using her mental. She's not Clarie Starling, I would say.

SPEAKER_03

I gotta go through and uh and convert mine to a five scale, so I'm not like what the hell are you talking about?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm doing bananas. Resourceful, I said three out of five. There is some opportunities for her to be resourceful where like she finds the elephant gun on the wall, but it actually doesn't work. But she does find some other things to use as weapons, and she's pretty resourceful in this. And then strength of opponent, I put four out of five because yes, she's fighting other humans, but there's a fucking lot of them. It's a whole family of them trying to kill her. It's not like there's a ghost face and that's it. It is a whole family trying to kill her on this property, even the kids trying to kill her. So I put the strength of opponent for her as four. I have her as my number five with a score of 19 out of 25. And actually, my four, three, four, and my number four and my number three are also scored 19 on this scale. I don't know how I'm it doesn't, I'm not gonna do the tiebreakers for all of them, but but yeah, I put her at number five. Anyone else have Grace Lodomas? I think as a great winner. I do number five. How about that?

SPEAKER_00

As number five, but I'm gonna talk at zero. Yeah, all right. My turn? Yeah, okay. So um my honorable mention is Koopa from oh, that was Northeast. No, that's close enough to British. From Dog Soldiers, right? I mean, he's the only one that makes it out. Okay. Um he's a badass, he's a thinker, he's a leader. And he's in one of your favorite movies. And he's one of my favorite movies. I like the character. He I was thinking of using him as moral compass, but obviously I can't now because heroes can't be a supporting character. And that's what we'll call the other ones. They're supporting characters, they cannot be the lead in the movie, so you have to be supporting. So, yeah, he's my honorable mention. So I'm gonna should I throw out all five in no particular order? Okay, I won't. Well, you can, but yes, Grace La Domas is my number five. She like I you guys with the categories. I mean, like uh you know, number one.

SPEAKER_01

All of that runs through my head. Just be like, hey, what Mike said, and we'll move to Justin.

SPEAKER_00

No, I mean, all of that runs through my head, but I didn't think about like I want to put this category and score this and that. Right, but like you did it, like yeah, it was buried code. It was like hidden code, right? You didn't like show she is intelligent, she's a survivor, she is a badass when she needs to be, she can fight, she can shoot, she can run, she can modify her movie horror movie uniform, right? And I like her. Like she seems like a a nice very likable, yeah. So that's why I got her as number five. But I don't think she could get a hold of a team of people. Okay, but got her.

SPEAKER_03

scale and do a a five-point scale. So we can we can Samara weaving. Alright, the next one on my yeah also she's Samara weaving. The next one on my list is another one from our hall of fame. It is Nancy Thompson from the nightmare on Elm Street 1, 3 and the new nightmare. So this is one of those ones where it's like there were people that outscored her there for sure. I feel like Freddy is a 3.5 out of five on the the threat scale he is not just not just coming after one person or one family.

SPEAKER_01

He can travel through a whole street full of families and he is a dream killer right so so he is an ex is you know he's a supernatural threat resourceful as shit she went out and figured out how to make some booby traps she got a book from the library who wants to go to the library to get and you end up with a list if you check out books about booby traps I think uh like yeah like I've seen the movie seven you get flagged physicality she lost some points but he and hero readiness so here's what I'm what I want to say about hero readiness like this is one of the first people that would be like there's something wrong I am going to shout it to the rooftops I'm going to be the one that you know says something is going on that is not natural and I gotta get to the bottom of it she was she was there right she's she's hearing that other people are having the same people in the nightmare she's like this isn't normal and it wasn't just like oh we're you know just a thing so Nancy Thompson Heather Langenkamp in those movies she is iconic I don't know if she made everybody's list but to me she is my number four hero anybody else's list I did not that's okay I I stopped at 10 I could have gone farther and yeah I just did and she's a sweet lady I met her yeah you you always like to bring that up yeah yeah yeah no I this one I actually talked to yeah all right Nancy Thompson my number four let's see I have a tie between two people and I think I'm gonna give my number four to oh gosh I'm gonna give my number four to Ash Williams all right bravery scale five out of five definitely win loss record one out of five because he loses everybody it's just him at the end right it's just him mental strength mental strength five out of five to deal to deal with what you have to deal with and like and and just crack wires I have him at an intelligence of 1.5 but I'm with you like go with it go with it but like the mental strength it's like there's so much going on there's so much off the wall shit going on and he's trying to like get he's trying to make it through and he's able to like force a demon out of him mentally right so I mean you're right the mental strength to be like I have to cut my hand off so I don't fully turn into this fucking thing like and to actually do it like holy shit some saw bullshit yeah resourcefulness a five I mean fucking chainsaw hand boomstick like all the stuff he does and and makes and creates resourcefulness five out of five and then the strength of the opponent the uh deadites I give them a three out of five for three for the I give him a four and a half like well we have different categories mine was a threat scale versus I gave him a banana and a great nut so I mean that's I got ash Williams who's I mean we're talking legends here guys so it's it's having him at four is tough but I mean the other three are also legends. He's my three tough he's my three well do you have do you have Ash on yours Charlie? Are you done with your four?

SPEAKER_00

I'm done with my number four pick. My number four is also Ash Williams that's perfect because then it'll just lead into me as far as like my number three he's a bad he's LFA LFA but I mean people die around him a lot of times real real like if we and if we're talking about the whole series like Army of Darkness gets a little corny gets more in the comedy it's you hold your tongue but it does it saves a lot of people eventually in spite of his shenanigans and tomfoolery yeah yeah he's a badass he's the funniest oh hero of horror movies that has ever existed he he gets a job done I mean he's a feel he's unkillable he was possessed got it out cut his own hand off killed his own girlfriend he's just out there had to go snap an X and cash and check right I fully thought I was gonna get some shit putting him so low and you know who knows what the our two listeners is going to say about this I think it's doubled the four now at this point.

SPEAKER_03

I love Ash Williams but he is a narcissist oh in the best way though in the in yeah in the way in in in in a way but yeah he's my number four I don't so I don't think he starts off as a narcissist I think they realize when they're when the jokes become about how handsome he is and and stuff and how rugged he is like then they lean it they lean into that shit for sure. But Ash Williams this is a perfect segue because he is my number three so I think the threat that is you know reading from the Necarot Namakon also brings all these deadites slash Kendarian demons into our reality to take over the world right so somebody's got to close that or the world is over right so you can't get much higher threat level he got a four and a half from me there he was I mean obviously was like a what the F kind of situation but he leaned into the hero's situation right away he's like somebody's got to start shooting these things in the head somebody's got to start dismembering them. Toughness ranked the highest of my characters as far as like just like physicalities punching deadites in the face he's you know fighting like there's a real physicality what he does.

SPEAKER_01

So I looked at intelligence differently I thought he was kind of dumb guy kind of a dumb guy but he was resourceful so I might have to tweak the you know he's got straight smarts yeah he yeah he had to go strap up horror movie smarts he had to go to the the woodshed and strap up a dildo no a chain chains that's what it was and just groovy it up you know he gave us and like you say groovy and unless you're talking about the Brady bunch like you know exactly what groovy is right so boomstick iconic this is another iconic yeah all right on to my number three that was your number three my number three is RJ McCready from the thing this is a guy that his bravery is five out of five all right he he's he's going on these the expedition to go find the Norwegian camp you don't know what you're gonna there then for the sweets guy when when they fight figure out what's going on like he's the one that's the leader of this crew that you know they don't know what the fuck's going on but he's the one that's kind of driving some of the decision making and and you know being the brave one that's like going out in the elements and like if we don't come back like you know his win loss record unfortunately is a one out of five because every everyone fucking dies. It's a 1.5 because like old uh child's was still alive too at the end right yeah but he's the bad guy who knows I know unknowable his mental strength I gave him a three out of five because he was alcoholic well no I feel like he's like he he does good things like we got to do this blood test to see who's a thing and who's not but he also turns and shoots what's his name that made what's who does he shoot he was coming at him yeah dog guy but he's coming at him with a scalpel right yeah but he turns around and shoots him and then we find out that he was not a thing but even though he's certain that he was a thing like Morikovich you are not a thing that crack some eggs and then resourcefulness is a five I mean like he can operate a flamethrower he's he's finding shit that they're using left and right to try to figure out I mean he's just really resourceful with limited tools at this right outpost and dude strength of opponent is five out of five because the thing like who the fuck is defeating the thing apparently nobody because they all fucking end up dead but I mean that's I think because the win loss record drops him down in this in the points that I put up there but yeah I put him at at number three I think basically because you know he can do all the stuff and he'd be a great leader of your crew but the you can't defeat the thing you you can't you can't you can't defeat the thing you don't yep it's it's such a that's and that's why I have like you know there they I had it like a five out of five because what's more deadly the thing or some deadites it's the fucking thing by a mile. Spoiler alert we're gonna find out for my score in a second but let's hear uh so that's my number three RJ McCready.

SPEAKER_00

All right so my number three is a little bit different. It is also RJ McCready damn it's J.R.

SPEAKER_03

McCready he didn't save anybody but he tried so fucking hard he could have been like I don't trust anybody and just blow everybody up but no he came up with the test he pulled people hostage to save them from themselves and the thing and he wasn't I mean he had issues right he'll throw uh some shitty ass gotch in the computer in the computer like ruin it for everyone ruined it for everyone ruined it for everyone was that his personal computer probably not no back then computers cost two thousand dollars twelve thousand oh two thousand like twelve thousand dollars in the eighties right so yes he I don't do numbers he he got a banana and a grape he he's a badass he unfortunately didn't save anybody he tried as hard as he could like I said or you could argue he saved the world I don't think he did because the world's gonna come looking for this crew and they're gonna find the thing and that the humanity's obviously obviously cult third he's a badass four I drink with him I fuck with him I make fun of how he sucks at chess I was like where you get that stupid ass fucking hat yeah that do your show Williams nerd that nerd ass hat you think you are you know they're not sweet Rambo I like how you call them sweets dog you know they're not sweet you're just getting dick but I like it yeah so yeah my number is RJ alright guys well it sounds like here's where we're gonna start to sound a little a little broken recording but like he is actually my number two guys it's amazing how we we did this the truth is the truth the threat level is not there's nothing higher than a shape shifting alien that could we we saw the calculations we saw the projections the extrapolation of how quickly this could infect the entire world right Wilford Bremley himself played asteroids and showed us how that would infect everyone within like 17 minutes and and it was yeah so basically the threat the life of the world right this the fate of the world is in his hands and this crew's hands right so no threat level higher he was I say he scored the highest on my ready to be a hero and he stepped in he's the first one to be like something's wrong grab the flamethrower right maybe right or wrong he was like get that flamethrower let's get it let's burn these dogs up let's burn everything because we he's a natural leader he knows what he's doing and he doesn't take a long time to decide toughness and physicality they were coming at him they thought he was the thing right so he had to fight off people yeah he had to fight off things save them against their will um yeah exactly yeah to detain Wilford Bremley yeah so that was uh three and a half better now yeah I'm all better now fucking Wilford Bramley I don't think intelligence and resourcefulness was you know right down the middle three out of five on there but like the test that he came up with brilliant one of the best like ways of testing and it turned out to be great and it was one of the best jump scares in the movie too and he's just cool as shit he's Kurt Russell right right like Kurt Russell could be many things and walk away as the star of that movie right yeah he did so my number one is might be obvious to a lot of people but like that's where he kind of loses in the the outcome you know you you will you'd like to see more of his friends make it out right but yeah you know what it wouldn't have been a good movie if more of his friends made it out the same movie I've watched movies I've watched movies where like nobody died I'm like what was the point some bullshit yeah somebody that was nothing it was too easy to kill that person right anyway so that was my number two RJ McCready the thing all right my number two and this is tough because I had to I'm curious I I I came up with a tie on my metrics that I put in between my number one and number two and the objective of this game is to create the best crew or the best movie based on the crew so I think I'm gonna tell you my number two that did not that lost the tiebreaker with number one is Ellen Ripley of Alien Aliens it's alien three etc her bravery is five out of five of course of course it's five out of five her bravery her win loss record unfortunately is only a two a lot of her crew dies a lot of people die in alien aliens etc she's forced into a terrible win loss record in part three by some terrible storytelling where Newt is no longer she no longer has Newt unforgivable unforgivable newt and Hage her mental strength is a five out of five she's smart as shit it's a ten out of five her resourcefulness is I put a three the fucking loader is great the fucking that's awesome otherwise there's other people on the crew wait doing the resourceful stuff she used a zippo to set off the fire alarm that was pretty resourceful three out of five three out of five is better than half she got trained on two weapons that she used 57 years apart 24 hours later that she badassed it with yeah like no we'd like we both have a good feeling like everybody gets locked up and where's the auto where's the safety I'd be like I'd have more like throwing it at him yeah like a grenade.

SPEAKER_01

I I think though that you know she had to be taught those things I mean you know you could you could argue that Michael Bean's character was more of the leader when it came to the combat stuff than she was no I'm just saying you could you could but she she was the one that fought like the bureaucratic fight against Paul Riser and like want to do the corporate bullshit but when it came to like the combat stuff Michael Bean was the one being like we're gonna go here and there and we're gonna need this weapon and we're gonna cut off this so they can't get in here. And like they both collaborate on that but it was more of him I I would say and then strength of opponent I mean it's a five out of five obviously with the xenomorphs the queen in aliens the queen xenomorph you could go six out of five like with the queen I would but you can't those but so five out of five strength of schedule for her that's my number two which I mean we're splitting hairs they're legendary fucking heroes and legends in these movies.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah so is I gave her my number two to ask is your number two the same or did you do it at different number two should I do my thoughts because that was my I don't do a number two she's my number one well since it's your number one well don't skip don't well I didn't know if we should like since I should just add on the character or not.

SPEAKER_01

I would say keep your number one yourself but you already didn't oh it's too late it's too late.

SPEAKER_00

So let's do your number two Charlie okay so my number two same thing Ellen Ripley my number one and number two were oh okay back and forth back and forth what's this I mean she does that and then there's the how many people survive around her and Ellen Ripley I'm pretty sure you've looked at my list that I made an hour and a half before the podcast somehow Ellen Ripley's my number two and another factor came to this so Ellen Ripley is obviously a badass. She is a mining ship lieutenant like a second officer on a ship. So she's got the intelligence you know that that comes out there. She's got the leadership abilities that she chose in the first movie and that she chose in the second movie. And even though Hicks was more on calling tactics and stuff like that when shit went down and shit was going bad she took control of that APV yeah when they're like we only have 12 minutes left or whatever and she's like that's another time I'm gonna go get on the we need a nuke that site from orbit yeah and she was like we're going back in to save these people and she has her mental her mental game's a perfect skill she's really smart really resourceful and like I said she used weapons she's just learned how to use in combat effectively very effectively I mean that's a good script but we're talking about the character and she's my number two the tiebreaker was who I want for comic relief and we can't pick somebody from the same movie.

SPEAKER_03

Oh okay good strategy so that's why she's my number two so you kind of know who my number one for comic relief is going to be yeah we we do go ahead just Michael Bean wasn't that funny in the right Bishop Bertie it was Paul Riser though he's a comedian he's a comedian but he might fit a different category so who knows so what's your number two Ellen Ripley is my number one so like it it kind of worked out again where it's like you guys are just feed me but I'm ranking him a little higher right so Ellen Ripley the threat level once again the fate of humanity one one alien one xenomorph took out a ship with no problem like it was like it was ripping paper right what could a hundred do what could 170 or whatever however many miners there were on this colony times the amount of eggs and a small army of oh my gosh like if it got to earth or wherever was the place that everybody was living it would demolish everybody and we find out in the other movies that these are biological weapons designed to take out planets. Right so heroes obviously like she was a flight officer like they're they're they responded to a a beacon a distress beacon so they just popped in so they she wasn't looking to be a hero but when the shit hit the fan and she was looking awesome in her tiny underpants she stepped up to the to the plate and knocked it out of the park okay and she continues to do so throughout the series right even when she's brought back as an effing clone she's like oh I guess I'm a clone now we're gonna you know do this shit right so heroes I gave her a you know six six out of ten three out of five toughness physicality a lot of loader stuff there is some hiding and stuff from so she four out of five still solid intelligence resource three and a half out of she was my top scoring one there was no it was who's gonna come in second it was the Larry bird who's gonna come in second place here but she is iconic she looks iconic she's like just a she looks like a hero right I think somebody brought it up on our aliens pod that everybody else is in the full tactical gear but she's in a leather jacket I think that's you no no no because I was jealous of the whoever it was but like she has presence yeah presence yeah hero presence um and she continues that in every movie she's in but you know whatever so that's my number one the champ champ the best in my book the ultimate hero is Ellen Ripley all right okay my number one not gonna be around the bush Dutch from Predator okay we got different number one finally we we diverge Dylan Dylan C A catch you pushing too many pits got to the job of come on pick me number one put this in a meat grinder do it make me number one come on I'm right here pick me come on have you seen the TikTok where it's Arnold Schwarzenegger doing the uh obsession no no no don't do that we were having a nice day um I I picked Dutch at number one because I wanted to do the Arnold Schwarzenegger voice I mean and you like Arnold Schwarzenegger's my guy yeah let me break down the attributes here bravery standing up to the big bad five out of five you know I mean that's a fucking scary situation to be in an invisible thing hunting you and your team and you're going after it you just watched

SPEAKER_01

Like one of your team members get their arm blown off and then head blown off, and you're still you gotta go after him fight this thing while you're trying to save this hostage. Win-loss record, unfortunately, is a one out of five. His whole crew dies. No, saves the hostage. The lady. The one lady somehow at the end gets on the chopper, the one girl, but the rest of his team is out. Mental strength, I said four out of five because of the heat, the con jungle conditions, the lack of food, the lack of water, the length of the one-on-one battle really takes a toll, and he stayed like kept his game up high throughout all that. Resourcefulness, five out of five. And this is where I put resourcefulness ahead of what Ripley does because the whole third act is him being resourceful as shit, making sense. Making the traps, putting lifting, making a bow and arrow out of nothing. He lost, he doesn't have guns and ammo anymore.

SPEAKER_03

Uses the mud to camouflage his heat signal.

SPEAKER_01

The mud, which was kind of an accident, but then like realizes he can do that. But like building a boat, building the traps, building like setting up the fucking log and pulling the log up the tree to to smash the predator later. And then so I think a lot of that falls under like that's cowardly. He does so much more resourceful stuff to try to catch the predator, which is also a TV show, I think. But to catch a predator, yeah. He tries to catch a predator. Um does a lot of resourceful stuff to to get this one, to get the yaucha, if you will. Yaucha and strength of strength of opponent, just like the thing, just like the xenomorph predator yauchas are five out of five. They're five out of five, they're invisible, yeah. They have cloaking ability, they have lasers that front that shoot, they have heat sensing vision, they are five out of five.

SPEAKER_03

I like how he's like, they are five out of five. All right, so uh once again, our categories are different. Mine was threat level because predator, obviously, they have it's almost like a big game hunting for them, right? It's not a they're not trying to destroy the world, otherwise, whole ships of Yacht would come, right?

SPEAKER_01

So it's oh, and oh yeah, they turn into basically a nuclear bomb right whenever they want to be small.

SPEAKER_03

Bang, bang, bang. I think when I was doing looking for my list and and jogging my memory on stuff, I I still tend to put this more in a sci-fi. It is like it like we've talked about this a million times. It's a slasher film, it's a horror film, but like for some reason I think I lean back on that being more lean back, lean back.

SPEAKER_01

So, like if it's this was regular people, like if like dog soldiers, 100% a horror film. The first act and a half is a predator film. They're in the jungle, yeah, they're wondering what's going wrong. There's blood, there's guts, there's things dying, there's they're actively being hunted. It's a predator movie for 45 minutes, and then it they get to the house and then it turns into something like a you know, home invasion almost kind of thing. But you know, I mean predator's a horror film. Good number one, and I like it. And I I my tiebreaker for Dutch over Ellen Ripley is basically who's going on the movie poster if I want to sell tickets. Is it gonna be Sigourney Weaver or Arnold Schwarzenegger? It's gonna be Sigoregger. It's Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's it's Sigorni. So, well, I mean, whatever. You don't gotta see my movie. I know I'm boycotting it. All right, so that's my number one.

SPEAKER_00

All right, good pick. Finally, we have something different. All right, and for me, this character, this person does it all. Badass, fun, super strength, super speed. I mean, uh above human. Um saves a lot of people. Is it ghostwriter? Kills a lot of bad people, and it's Alice from Resident Evil. Oh man, that one hurts my feelings because like she, yeah, I didn't damn it. Yeah, I mean, she save she saves the world in the first movie. You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean too late. Can we re-record real quick? Sorry, Sydney. I gave her two bananas and the apple crumb cake. And because she saves a bunch of people, she's a badass, she's got super strength, she's got super speed because of the virus that changed her. She's up against zombies and not just human zombies, like every kind of animal becomes and the root evil is this virus which can't be stopped. The T virus, yeah. Right? Can I can I give my no?

SPEAKER_03

You finish up your thoughts and then I'll give my thoughts.

SPEAKER_00

And it's a zombie movie. I love zombie movies. Right? That's pretty much it. I forgot I'd hang out with her.

SPEAKER_03

I forgot to mention, so if we think of the movies that we all picked, like the Scream franchise, the Nightmare on Elm Street, the The Evil Deads, the The Thing, and Alien. For me, those are all like unimpeachable like IPs, right? To me. So it's like that's where I think the tiebreaker, like, she didn't make the my list. It's like Resident Evil's fun. It's it's fun.

SPEAKER_00

Zany fun, you know, but like great pick, though. That was a great pick. So I I didn't I forgot to mention her leadership skills. She's a born leader, she will be able to do it. She'd lead me into a lot of trouble, man. She she's in one of the movies, she's got like this caravan of people that she's leading and and protecting. Some of the people get gut. Of course, it's a zombie horror movie. There has to be deaths. But for me, nobody does it like that.

SPEAKER_03

She would kick everybody on my list's ass. Like she would literally kick everybody's ass on my list.

SPEAKER_00

She would take everybody out if they all joined up against her. Which is unstoppable. Right. Dutch could beat that ass.

SPEAKER_03

Uh no. Unfortunately, Dutch can't beat the multi pass. That's a different movie. Autolash. Chicken goot. Sorry, I don't have more to add about Alice. Haven't seen Resident Evil. He's mad at yeah. Mike is too serious to watch the Resident Evil movies. Even though I watched artsy enough on it.

SPEAKER_01

Christ, I've done pieces on this podcast. I've done serial mob on this podcast. Who are you trying to kill an evil?

SPEAKER_00

I don't think you're making the point you think you are.

SPEAKER_01

I like serious films like serial mom guys, not Resident Evil. Martyrs.

SPEAKER_03

Martyrs is moving Chacolai Blue. Um, so we do, I think on September 18th or whatever date it is, we need to go watch Zach Gregor's Resident Evil. It won't have Mila, which will piss me off. Yeah. But group watch, guys. Okay. Okay. All right. All right. What else?

SPEAKER_01

Well, that was all our number ones. Should we do we want to have was there anyone else on any honorable mentions list you want to spend 30 seconds on?

SPEAKER_03

For sure, 10 seconds. Like 20 to 30 seconds. I'll spend 10 seconds total for all the people that like Martin Brody. John's one and two. Just he he seemed too pedestrian in a weird way. He's only in two movies. The stakes are high. He's protecting Amityville Beach or Amityville. What is the name of it? Amityville. Amityville. Amity Island. Amity Island. It's not a horror. Amityville horror. Amityville is the same thing. Amityville Island. He's protecting that. He's doing his. And he he is the voice that's like always the we gotta shut down this damn beach, man. He is the like he's the first one to say we can't have any more kids get swallowed up. So love Martin Brody, but just didn't make the list compared to the other ones. I'm still mad about Alice. Damn it. Laurie Strode's an honorable mention. I'll let you touch take that one a little bit. Dr. Lawrence Gordon actually saw his own foot off to save the day, to save his family. But once again, just not a hero in that movie. He you're right. There is no real protagonist, but like if you had to assign a protagonist, for sure, I'd say that would be it. And and I had one person that scored really pretty high on my list that should have been in my top five was Van Helsing in the Dracula series, but like I just don't like the series enough, or I don't like that character enough to be like, I'm not riding with that guy. Definitely not grabbing a beer with Van Helsing. No, hell no. That's it. That's it. So who else wants to talk about that?

SPEAKER_00

Charlie, do you have any more names? Sure. I got Crystal from The Hunt. Oh, yeah, yeah. Great. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

She's but I think like with Le Damas, like with Grace, like it kind of you had to pick one, right?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_03

A little bit? No? Because it's similar movies. Like with Aaron. Similar, but she's a she was she showed up a bad one. Oh, yes. I think Aaron from your next, Grace, and who you just mentioned from the hunt are all in that scene. Like I had to pick one, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I think that is that's probably I mean, Father Karas, the Exorcist. Oh yeah. But not really. I mean, it didn't turn out so well. Who's the other? It was Father Merrick.

SPEAKER_03

Is that what the other one was? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Father Marin. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Uh size.

SPEAKER_00

Brody from Jaws. But I mean, uh I got a solid list. I don't I regret nothing.

SPEAKER_01

Regret nothing. Same here. And you guys mentioned the other three names that I have on my list that I haven't talked about yet. Father Karis, I think his like his win-loss record is high because he kind of gets Pazuzu out of Reagan and but he loses Father Marin. But it's not like there's collateral damage like the other ones. But his his resourcefulness is kind of low, his strength of opponents pretty low. His mental strength is pretty low because he lets little things like the devil taunting him about his mother, like actually get to him and shit like that. They said his mother sucks, you know what? And then and then he actually he actually loses to Pazuzu in the end. Like he gets Pazuzu out of Reagan, but then it lets him take him and he dies. What happens?

SPEAKER_00

Like just floats in the ether then, like goes back to wherever demons go to. Right?

SPEAKER_01

Bing bing bong.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, I'm by guys.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Do you enjoy your trip up north? Yeah. I had Martin Brody. I mean, his his bravery level is lower because he's like afraid of the water, but he ends up getting on the boat anyway and going on the trip to try to get the shark. And like his mental strength is kind of middle of the road, win loss records, middle of the road. Not very resourceful. He does like blow the shark up, but it was like the only thing that he did in the movie. That shark, you know. But also like strength of opponent was a three, like it's big, like the shark is bigger than just a man, but it's also something you could kill. It's not a xenomorph. What was uh low.

SPEAKER_03

What was Richard Dreyfus's character's name in that one? Matt Hooper Hooper. Matt Hooper in the book, apparently. Did has anybody listened to any or read anything about what the book is? Well, Hooper sleeps with his wife. In that scene where they're drinking wine or whatever, I guess Brody goes to bed and like he then uh Hooper bangs his wife or whatever.

SPEAKER_04

So I don't need to know that.

SPEAKER_03

Come on over to no, just saying you can't look at Brody the same way. He's a cuck. I didn't want to say it. He was watching.

SPEAKER_01

And then Lori Strode, who is like all-time famous final girl, but you know, all her friends pretty much die. Her mental strength is not good. She has the opportunity to keep the knife and hold on to it and defend herself. And instead, she drops it as she runs away a lot in this one. Strength of opponents low. I mean, Michael Myers is immortal, but still like a guy, like you know, right solid. It's not a shark, it's not a xenomorph, it's not a predator, it's not a thing.

SPEAKER_00

He's not gonna possess you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, right. And and and I did put her her win-loss record is low, but that's Lori Strode throughout the entire Halloween franchise where she's in those movies, because she's very resourceful as she gets older in the latter trilogy of of the Halloween trilogy. She's very resourceful. Her house is basically a death trap to trap Michael in, which didn't work, but spoiler, you know, it's whatever. I mean, you there's three of them, so you know the first one, he's still coming back for the next two. But so she does get more resourceful as it goes on, but more people die under her watch as it goes on. So her win-loss record's pretty low. And her mental strength is terrible. When you get to the when you get to the last trilogy, her mental strength is like ought to be a zero, but it's so I gave it a one.

SPEAKER_03

But so I mean this one, I think were you keeping track, Mike, on uh what we giving everybody? I kept track of what your number ones were. Just the number one, just the number one. So we weren't giving like gonna recap everybody's point totals for like one through five.

SPEAKER_01

No, if you want to say your top five again, we can go around the table and do our top five, but I kept track of the number ones to build the crew and remind everybody, like, hey, here's who yeah, I think here's who Charlie's hero leader was. So the next episode that's weasels and backstabbers and dickheads, like who's the you know that sounds like a Narnia, but Weasels back backstabbers and dickheads. Why which backstabber is gonna be teamed up with Charlie's number one pick and so on and so on and so forth.

SPEAKER_03

Are we going to have to wed like like they would like, for example, if we used RJ McCready, for example? Are we gonna have to be like, well, RJ would get along with this person because it would roll off his shoulders? Are we just gonna, yeah, are we just gonna do our favorites?

SPEAKER_01

We we go with the best, the best dickhead, the best weasel. You're trying to put together a crew that's gonna sell the most movie tickets, I think.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, or be the best movie. Fair enough. Not sell tickets. So I started first, so we're not like that. I will recap my five. At number five was Sidney Prescott from the Scream franchise, and number four was Nancy Thompson of The Nightmare on Elm Street 1, 3, and New Nightmare. My number three was Ash Williams, Evil Dead 1, 2, Army of Darkness, and Ash versus the Evil Dead. Number two, RJ McCready, the thing. The only one that had one movie, which could have put him in second place in my book. I'm not sure. And then Ellen Ripley, Alien, Aliens, Alien Three, Alien Resurrection.

SPEAKER_01

All right. Mine was number five, Grace Lodomas, Ready or Not series, Ash Williams, Evil Dead series, RJ McCready, the thing, Ellen Ripley, as Justin mentioned, alien, aliens, etc. And Dutch Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator, number one.

SPEAKER_00

Leading my crew. Mine was exactly like Mike's, except for the number one. I have Alice from Resident Evil. I'll I'll I do love that Charlie went with the heart first for the number one.

SPEAKER_03

I do like that.

SPEAKER_00

All right, all right. What we got?

SPEAKER_03

So that sounds like our number. We might need to whittle down who our number five, like or who our top five is if we're going to do that as people we can choose from.

SPEAKER_01

Or if we so basically Charlie can no longer pick a character from Resident Evil as his number one. Right. Justin, you can no longer pick a character from Alien Franchise as your number one for any other category. I can no longer pick anybody from Predator as my number one for any other category.

SPEAKER_03

And then our number ones are going to be what they are. Right.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna recap. Okay. So our the the next category is gonna be the weasel, the backstabber. So, for example, like can't use Burke. So for Carl Weathers, who was like kind of the weasel-y one who's a predator, I can't I can't pick. I can put him number two if I want, I can't put him number one, he can't be in my crew. So the weasel. What were we just gonna go with the weasel? We should call it like weasels, backstabbers, and dickheads. Let's just call it that. I agree. Weasels, backstabbers, and dickheads are gonna be the next person in our crew that we will pick next week to add the second piece to our crew. Any final thoughts before we uh head on out of here? Nope.

SPEAKER_03

I I am looking forward to this journey that we're going on for this to complete this list. I had a lot of fun with this episode. The research was fun and frustrating when I get you know Predator and Alice, you know, brought up where I just completely blind spots for some reason. What about you guys? You guys like the exercise so far?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm gonna pick different categories for Weasel. Like, I'm not gonna be like, well, they were so brave, they're meant, you know, they're they were so resourceful. I'll have to come up with different categories on what makes a good dickhead. There should be a book called The Bravest Weasel. I'd read it. Resourceful Weasel. But you know, uh, I'll be doing that again and give assign point values and try to come up with my top five.

SPEAKER_03

One of my categories is gonna be how unforgivable their act was.

SPEAKER_01

Unforgivable.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, I know Knight of the Living Dead like is iconic, and so many directors and people that came after George A. Romero use that as inspiration for their work. I just I'm like, I just don't know.
